If you’re updating a fairy tale, think wisely about how you advance characters who may not stand the test of time.
There are so many great titles in the public domain, it’s hard to choose which you want to adapt. To its credit, Disney has mined that space for decades.
Now, it’s going back to its animated classics and updating them as live-action movies. The worry, for some, is that if Disney tries to honor those earlier movies specifically, they may not update the cultural stereotypes that are distasteful today.
Recently, Peter Dinklage addressed this issue on Marc Maron’s podcast while talking about the news that Disney was remaking Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
