Memory manufacturer Exascend has announced the Nitro CFexpress, a new 512GB VPG400-certified CFexpress Type B card that appears as though it will be the first to market.
In May 2021, Western Digital announced its plans to release what would’ve then been the world’s first VPG400 CFexpress Type B card. However, it doesn’t appear as though Western Digital’s offering ever made it to market. So, as long as Exascend gets its new card to market, its Nitro CFexpress card should be the first VPG400-certified CFexpress Type B card available to purchase.
The Video Performance Guarantee Profile 4 (VPG400) rating ensures the minimum write speeds while recording video is at least 400MBps without dropping any frames. Exascend says the card offers sustained read and write speeds of 1,850MBps and 1,700MBps, respectively, which are also the maximum. As it stands, no current cameras can even output data that fast, with the highest throughput current topping out at 850MBps, but having room for growth should make this card a little more future-proof than others.

Aside from being fast, the card is also tough with IP67 dust and water resistance. Internal graphene heatsinks should help keep the 3D TLC flash memory cool during sustained recording sessions.
To make the most of the speeds of its new Nitro CFexpress cards, Exascend has also announced a new 20Gbps CFexpress reader, which should be able to transfer a full card in just under five minutes, give or take a bit, with plenty of overhead should Exascend release faster CFexpress Type B cards in the future.
Neither the 512GB Nitro CFexpress, nor the 20Gbps CFexpress reader have any pricing information available at this time, but the products are expected to launch within the next month, according to Newsshooter.
