Two days ago, Pentax updated its K-mount lens roadmap with a new HD Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro lens. Today, we’re already getting our first look at the updated lens in the form of a few leaked images that appear to be screenshots from some kind of press briefing.

First spotted by CAPA Camera, the new lens appears to be nearly identical to its non-HD predecessor on the outside. According to the slides shown in the leaked images, the lens is the same size and weight as the existing model, but features a new optical system as well as the ‘HD’ coating on particular elements. As the image below highlights, the new optical design and modified coatings appear to dramatically reduce purple fringing.

Note the difference between the purple fringing in the HD version (left) versus the original version (right). |
According to the report, the HD Pentax-D FA 100mm F2.8 Macro lens will retail for more than the current model and is set for a 2022 release, although no specific date has been provided at this time. The existing Pentax-D FA 100mm f/2.8 WR Macro lens retails for $547.
