Flash storage manufacturer Nextorage has announced (machine-translated) the release of what appear to be the world’s fastest CFexpress Type B memory cards.
According to internal testing, the B1 Pro series cards can achieve read and write speeds up to 1950MB/s and 1900MB/s, respectively, with VPG400 support (meaning the data rate is guaranteed not to go below 400MB/s). Currently, it appears the cards are limited to the Japanese market, but Nextorage’s other products have hit international retailers a few months after their debut.
Currently, the fastest cards on the market are Lexar’s Professional CFexpress Type B Card DIAMOND Series, which top out with read and write speeds of 1990MB/s and 1700MB/s, respectively. While that extra 50MB/s on the read speed and even 200MB/s on the write speed performance isn’t likely to make a difference real-world usage, it’s always a bragging right to take the ‘world’s fastest’ crown away from a fellow storage manufacturer.
Nextorage says the cards use Dynamic Auto Power Save, a power-saving technology developed by Nextorage, which the company claims can ‘reduce power consumption by 68%.’ In addition to conserving battery power, Nextorage says this also limits the amount of heat the card generates, which should help keep cameras shooting longer when capturing demanding video. Based on wording on its product page, it appears this technology will balance out peak transfer speeds during video recording to prevent the card from getting too hot.
The new B1 Pro series cards offer a collection of durability ratings, detailed in the chart below:
Spec | Standard |
---|---|
Heat resistance |
-10 °C to 70°C (guaranteed operating temperature) |
Shockproof | EIA-364-27A compliant |
X-ray resistance | ISO7816-1 compliant |
Ultraviolet resistance | ISO7816-1 compliant |
Anti-magnetic | according to Nextorage’s own test |
Capacation resistance | according to IEC 61000-4-2 |
Nextorage’s B1 Pro series cards will come in 165GB, 330GB, 660GB and 1330GB capacities for roughly $192, $430, $715 and $1430, respectively. All cards come with a five-year warranty.

Nextorage Co., Ltd. (Next Storage Co., Ltd., CEO: Katsuyuki Honda, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture) is a CFexpress Type B memory card that supports the PCIe® 3.0 NVMe 1.4 interface. “B1 Pro Series” and “B1 SE Series” will be on sale from late December 2022.
Nextorage will expand its product portfolio for professional imaging, following the SD memory cards being deployed for consumers. In the video industry, which is becoming more sophisticated with the evolution of camera performance, this product group has a lineup of capacities and performance that can be selected according to the application of people who record videos and still images in the highest quality.
About the product
B1 Pro Series (NX-B1PRO) – The B1 Pro Series is the fastest [1] read up to 1,950 MB/s[2], write up to 1,900 MB/s[2], and a minimum continuous write speed of 1,80 It has achieved 0 MB/s[2]. This series optimized for stable recording of 8K video with the highest bitrate with the latest high-performance mirrorless camera and high-speed continuous shooting in RAW quality, this series is VPG400 (the best for video recording) with a total capacity from 165 GB to 1,330 GB. It conforms to a low write guarantee speed of 400 MB/s) and has the specifications required for professional video recording.
The B1 Pro series is equipped with Dynamic Auto Power Save, a low-power technology developed by Nextorage, which is the largest compared to those that are not installed. It has reduced power consumption by 68% [2]. The power saving performance reduces the battery consumption of the camera, and the generation of thermal throttling* is suppressed by reducing the rise in the heat of the card body. This interaction maintains a stable writing speed while reducing heat generation and power consumption during high-speed writing such as video recording. ( * Thermal throttling: Control function to attenuate the transfer speed for the purpose of preventing thermal runaway)
B1 SE series (NX-B1SE) – The B1 SE series mainly has 128 GB and 256 GB capacities for high-quality still image shooting. Read up to 1,950 MB/s[2] (128GB up to 1,100 MB/s[2]), write up to 1,100 MB/s (128 GB up to 550 MB/s[2]), minimum 200 MB/s [2] (1 The continuous write speed of 28GB at least 100 MB/s[2]) reduces a series of work time from shooting to recording editing and sharing, contributing to improving operational efficiency.
Durability – Both the B1 Pro series and the B1 SE series have durability and a 5-year product warranty in accordance with the provisions of the CompactFlash Association:
- Heat resistance: -10 °C to 70°C (guaranteed operating temperature)
- Shockproof (EIA-364-27A compliant)
- X-ray resistance (ISO7816-1 compliant) Ultraviolet resistance (ISO7816-1 compliant)
- Anti-magnetic (according to Nextorage’s own test)
- Capacation resistance (according to IEC 61000-4-2)
Product compatibility – Nextorage is verifying compatibility with the B1 Pro series/B1 SE series and CFexpress Type B memory card compatible devices, and is currently Canon EOS R3 The recording operation on EOS R5, EOS R5C and Nikon Z9 has been confirmed. The information of the equipment that has been confirmed to operate is scheduled to be updated from time to time on the Nextorage website.
