Quentin Tarantino Believes the “Marvel-izaiton of Hollywood” Killed the “Movie Stars”

The iconic filmmaker has another hot take on Marvel—and you might agree with him.

After making a dig at Marvel films early this month by saying he and his fellow filmmakers can’t wait for the superhero trend to fade away like the musical films in the 1960s, Quentin Tarantino delivers another hot take. The director, who is on a press tour promoting his new book, Cinema Speculation, is giving his opinion on the state of cinema, and the superhero genre conversation cannot be avoided.

On his stop on Tom Segura’s podcast, 2 Bears, 1 Cave, Mediaite reported that Tarantino mourned over the idea that there are no “real movie stars” anymore thanks to the “Marvel-ization of Hollywood.”

“Part of the Marvel-ization of Hollywood is… you have all these actors who have become famous playing these characters. But they’re not movie stars. Right?” Tarantino asks. “Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think that’s been said a zillion times.”
