I love how Hollywood restarts its year in January with the Sundance Film Festival. Even though the fest is in Park City, it just feels like everyone in town uses Sundance as the emotional start of their tracking of titles and new voices from the fest.
For me, I see it as the same. It’s cool to see these projects elevate their creators and artists and get them into the spotlight.
Have a hit at Sundance, and chances are you’re going to have a pretty great year.
So, what movies should we be keeping an eye on out of Park City this year?

11. Jimpa
This family drama promises great performances at its center as it follows an estranged father coming home.
10. Twinless
This dark comedy follows one twin in a bereavement group trying to get over the loss of his brother.
9. If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You
This is another comedy from writer-director Mary Bronstein that tackles a single Mom dealing with her sick kid.
8. Rabbit Trap
A midnight selection about avant-garde musicians in a Welsh cottage.
7. Atropia
Produced by Luca Guadagnino, Alia Shawkat plays an actress in a military role-playing facility who then falls for a soldier playing an insurgent.
6. Opus
This cult thriller follows Ayo Edebiri as she heads into a cult-like environment to interview a famous pop star.
5. The Wedding Banquet
A remake of Ang Lee’s 1993 movie, this is a messy in a fun way story of a group of friends that involves weddings, IVF, and green cards.
4. Kiss of the Spider Woman
This has Oscars written all over it. It’s a Bill Condon musical about a political prisoner telling the story of a silver-screen starlet.
3. Train Dreams
This film follows a logger trying to build a railroad at the turn of the 20th century, and has real awards buzz for its leads.
2. Together
Real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco examine the idea of codependency in this thriller, which is one of the hottest titles this year.
1. Love Brooklyn
Three longtime Brooklynites navigate their careers as well as love, loss, and friends within their New York borough.
