For anyone interested in attending the British Society of Cinematographers international event for film and television production equipment and technology this year, RED Digital Cinema has shared news about its plans to showcase its revolutionary cinema cameras at this year’s event at Battersea Evolution in London.
In particular, RED—which is still in the early stages, perhaps of its Nikon acquisition—has revealed its lineup of cameras that are set to be on display and available for any interested cinematographers to check out.
Let’s look at what RED plans to showcase at this year’s BSC Expo and why you might want to try a few of these dynamic cinema cameras out yourself.
RED is Alive and Kicking
Attendees at this year’s BSC Expo in London will get the opportunity to engage with RED’s groundbreaking V-RAPTOR [X] and the KOMODO-X. If you’d like to discover the best of RED’s cinema camera technologies firsthand, a visit to RED’s booth (Stand 22) will let DPs experience the V-RAPTOR [X] large-format global shutter cinema camera and witness the outstanding capabilities of RED’s Global Vision suite in person.
RED shares that they will also preview some other of their new technologies, including Extended Highlights and the innovative Phantom Track for both virtual and live productions.
Attendees at this year’s event will also see the tiny but quite mighty KOMODO-X in person and will be able to explore its 6K S35 global shutter sensor, enhanced low-light performance, and exceptional frame rates of 6K at 80P and 4K at 120P—which is all packed into a 4x4x5-inch form factor and weighing just 2.6 lbs.
RED Leaks Nikon-Z Mount First Images
It’s also worth sharing that Y.M. Cinema has discovered some leaked first images of RED V-RAPTOR [X] and Komodo [X] cinema cameras with Nikon Z-mounts, more potentially big news for Nikon shooters who had been waiting for more integrations between the two brands.
RED Goes to BSC Expo 2025
As for events at this year’s BSC Expo, RED will host a discussion on “Developing the Visual Idea Behind High-Concept Movies,” featuring filmmakers Rob Hardy, ASC, BSC, Stephan Pehrsson, BSC, Benjamin Kračun, BSC, and Visual Effects Supervisor Erik Winquist.
The panel, RED reports, will delve into how cinematographers plan pre-visualized sequences on world-building features and TV series while maintaining intimacy with characters through small form factor camera rigs and lenses.
The filmmakers featured are all notable for having brought visual bravura to stories that include extensive visual effects, and as VFX technology has advanced, so too have camera and lens technology and techniques.
Furthermore, the conversation will explore how innovations, including the application of more complex bokeh and anamorphic image creation, are enabling filmmakers to extend their craft.
RED shares that the discussion will be held on Saturday, February 15th, at 2:15 p.m. and moderated by RED’s Naida Albright. If you’d like to register and learn more about the BSC Expo, you can check it out here.
