Robert Rodriguez Wants to Co-Produce a Movie With You

I was scrolling X (formerly Twitter) and saw an interesting tweet from one of my favorite filmmakers, Robert Rodriguez. In it, he was offering readers a chance to invest in one of his movies and also pitch him their own action movie.

The basic idea is that if you pay a certain amount of money, you get to send a video pitch to Rodriguez’s new company, Brass Knuckles Films. They’re developing an action movie slate that you can invest in. And they’re accepting pitches.

You can see the investment levels below.

If you follow the tweet to his website, he gives you this statement at the top:

“Every fan-investor will have an opportunity to submit one film idea. All will be reviewed. Finalists will be selected to pitch live to Robert. One winner will get their idea developed as part of the slate.”

Now, I wasn’t able to find out how much equity you’ll get in the movie if you invest – that may be coming in later posts. In my opinion, when you say a “co-investor” you should probably also get a piece of the money if the movies you work on make bank at the box office.

In terms of a pitching opportunity, I think this could be interesting. I don’t love how he says he wants to get a pro screenwriter onboard without a pitch. I feel like if you want to write the idea they acquire, you should maybe get the first crack at that, but maybe it’s on the table at a later time.

This is an interesting way to make a movie, I do wonder how much money they think they can get from this funding in order to make an action movie that may cost around $20 million. They must have other investors and distribution in place.

Again, these are questions with no answers.

I wanted to put this on your radar to see what you think.

Let me know what you think of this in the comments.
