Announced here at NAB Show 2025 eight years after launching the original Nucleus-M, Tilta has finally unveiled the much-anticipated follow-up to the company’s popular follow focus system. The new Tilta Nucleus-M II is a wireless control system that should provide some advanced, four-channel lens control for cine-style shooters.
This new system will be backward-compatible with the first-gen Nucleus-M components, plus it will offer some enhanced features, greater precision, and updated algorithms to help shooters and crews of all sizes better sync and coordinate their shots.
Let’s take a look at the new Tilta Nucleus-M II and see what it could offer for your projects.
Introducing the Tilta Nucleus-M II
As mentioned above, this new Tilta Nucleus-M II Wireless Lens Control System will provide advanced, four-channel lens control for cine-style shooters. It will be backward compatible with its original model and features more reliable transmission, greater precision, a 2.4″ display, updated algorithms, and L-series battery power.
With its “ultimate kit” package, the Tilta Nucleus-M II will include a FIZ handwheel controller, lanyard, ARRI rosette adapter, one 0.5 and two 0.8 MOD gears, one electronic focus, and five standard focus disks. The kit will also include two motors, right and left handgrips, 15 and 19mm rod mounts, baby pin and hand unit monitor mounts, 7-pin and D-Tap cables, and a waterproof hard case that protects the system during transport and storage.
Core Upgrades and Improved Features
If you’re familiar with the Nucleus-M, then the transition to the M II should be seamless. The M II will retain the damping adjustment and menu shortcut layout of the original version.
What will be new will be a new electronic marking disk that will let shooters execute precise focus pulls even in lower light levels. This detachable ring can be removed to return to your physical focus marks. Redesigned lens motors will also now offer a streamlined user interface, high torque, color-coded LED indicators, and a compact form that is ideal for gimbal, handheld, and drone use.
The Nucleus-M II’s new PID 2.0 (Proportional Integral Derivative) algorithm will also offer a fast 0.02-second response time with smooth, stutter- and delay-free adjustments.
